I was born in Rome in 1964.
I have always nourished my love for the art of photography.
At the age of sixteen, in the autumn of 1980, after a fifteen-day work as a vintner in the vineyards of the Colli Albani near Rome, I received the salary of 350,000 Italian L. (180 €).
Instead of buying a scooter, like most teenagers would do, I decided to buy a camera.
I chose a Nikon FM all-manual camera.
I wanted to be the maker of my photographs, choosing how to shoot images and fine subjects to my interest, whilst leaving very little room to chance, or to technology.
With DIA films, I could capture almost everything I saw: starting with my mother’s coffee cups to my cat, through friends, family, landscapes.
The photo sittings began to last for entire afternoons: I used my parents’ dining room, converted into a photographic studio for the occasion.
Then, the quest for the very nature of image and its shadow would begin.
Light can be seen as a source of inspiration, and a soul game.
Over the years, I would continue to photograph the faces of my wife and children: thousands of shots.
In 1994, I first conceived the idea of portraying my colleagues, too.
I quickly realized that the task I had set myself to was not easy: I would need plenty of natural light, and of course I must be able to find the right locations to the task.
Besides, I ought to have extra time and space at my disposal, in order to select and file all the photographs.
Then came the era of digital photography.
Initially, I very much disliked the performance of early digital cameras.
However, in 2004 I decided to buy a fixed optical camera, but this technology still seemed much too inadequate to my taste.
Only in the last few years -with my Nikon D200 reflex camerahave I finally achieved the effectiveness of shots that I sought, and a sharp optic that I can change to my pleasure.
I usually choose AF-S Nikkor 105 mm lenses for portraits.
This is my first exhibition.
